First of all, Happy New Year!
So I've had the ability to make a blog for a while now on my website, only I never did. I've been meaning to, and especially because I've had quite a few people ask me to make one, but, well...
so busy laziness and all. I've decided that 2015 I'm going to make more of an effort, especially since I am going to be focusing on a lot of creative and advanced photographic techniques, whether it's macro, off-camera lighting, and/or Photoshop manipulations. As such, this would be the proper venue to detail my experiences so others may chime in and assist or learn with me along the way.
And one of the motivators behind this new pursuit is a message I received yesterday:
I don't make New Year resolutions, but I also make exceptions to my rules. So I've resolved to make a habit of letting people know personally when they've left me with a favorable impression, whether it's the local postmaster, the produce manager at my favorite store, or a fellow Pentaxian. That's why I'm writing to you.
In short, I've enjoyed your landscapes -- especially of mountains I didn't get to in my mountaineering days! -- and have been impressed by the thoroughness of your product evaluations. Very professional. But there's more. You bring to your work a measure of flair that's refreshing and gives your work a unique character, a stamp which unmistakably marks them as Alex Jansen's. (Who else would deliberately bury cameras and lenses in Afghan sand, or douse them with the spray from a garden hose, or make them explode from their boxes?) And now you're showing promise as a portrait and infant photographer, where your enjoyment and engagement with your subjects is quite evident. Keep up the good work!
Needless to say, I'm absolutely floored, and I will do my best to keep adding more of "Alex Jansen's flair." On that note, part of my goal for this blog is that for every post there's at least one picture. So here's a sneak peak of what I've got in the works for my latest project:
